Kysan
Details:
Glutaraldehyde is a powerful biocidal agent with the advantage of continued activity in the presence of organic material. It displays a broad spectrum of activity and rapid rate of kill against the majority of organisms including vegetative bacteria, fungi, bacterial and fungal spores, tubercle bacilli and viruses. Glutaraldehyde reacts with protein and this is the basis of its mode of action against micro-organisms: studies indicate a sealing effect due to pow erful binding of the aldehyde to the outer cell layers of the organism. In addition, glutaraldehyde inactivates cell enzymes to achieve its rapid bactericidal effect.
Composition
Pleasantly lemon-scented Kysan contains 2% stabilised glutaraldehyde. The product has been tested and is approved by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS).
Usage Instructions
- For s-poricidal effect: Kysan should be used undiluted.
- For virucidal effect: Kysan should be used undiluted and allowed to remain in contact with material to be sterilised for up to IO minutes.
- For normal risk areas: (expected normal bacterial burden) use 1 part Kysan to 19 parts water. For example, use 500 ml Kysan and make up to 10 litres with water. Apply the diluted solution to working areas, cages, theatres, floors, walls, ceilings, windows and furniture using a clean mop and bucket or trigger spray or other cleaning method.
- For high risk areas: dilute 1: 10 and apply as above.
Packing
Kysan is packed in 5 litre polyethylene containers.
Storage
Kysan is stable and has a shelf life of I ½ years. It is labelled accordingly. Kysan should be stored in a cool place away from direct sunlight.
